It's always amusing to me that people think our blogs generate income. Although I have had offers for sponsorship and advertising, I prefer to be independent. Fortunately I am in a position - just barely - to blog without holding down a day job.

When I started blogging I had no idea where it would lead. My blog is really personal and I would be doing it whether 10 people or 100 people read it every day... or 1,000: and I've had a few days lately where readership has almost hit the 2,000-per-day mark. It continues to grow with no effort on my part to do anything but write. Since I write about opera too, that generates a different readership.

As far as journalists who have of necessity turned to blogging, I believe most of them will find that you can't make money doing it. Blogging is a labour of love, and truly time-consuming. When it is no longer a pleasure, I'll stop.
