The 36th annual Dance on Camera Festival here in New York kicks off at Lincoln Center on January 2nd and runs until the 19th. There are 14 programs in the festival, featuring a variety of documentaries, shorts, and videos of staged dance performances. Since all of the programs sound so interesting and diverse, I’m planning on attending a few programs at random. However, I already have my tickets to the January 7th screening of Water Flowing Together, a documentary about the life and career of former NYCB dancer Jock Soto. I first learned of this film about a year ago when I stumbled upon the Water Flowing Together website, and since then, I’ve been eagerly awaiting its New York premiere. There will be a discussion with Soto and the filmmaker, Gwendolen Cates, after the screening.
