Join the Performance Club!

The newly formed Performance Club has two exciting (and inexpensive) events this month: “The Shipment”, a black identity politics piece by Young Jean Lee at The Kitchen, and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet‘s winter season, which includes world premieres by Didy Veldman and Luca Veggetti. You can get the details about the events on WNYC’s blog. Everyone is invited, so bring your friends and encourage them to participate in the online discussions as well.

The fearless leader and founder of the Performance Club, Claudia La Rocco, recently talked to Didy Veldman about choreographing “frame of view” for Cedar Lake. Watch the video to hear excerpts from their conversation.

I’M VERY INTERESTED IN MODERN DANCE AND I WANT TO TAKE PART IN DIFFERENT PERFORMANCES,I HAVE A LITTLE EXPERIENCE. I LIVE IN GEORGIA, I’M 20 AND WANT TO KNOW IF IT’S NECESSARY TO BE A PROFESSIONAL DANCER AND HOW PEOPLE GET TO YOU.

Hi Magda, Glad that you’re interested in joining the Performance Club! Here is the link where information is posted about upcoming events: http://blogs.wnyc.org/culture/performance/ Although most performances that we see are in New York City, everyone is welcome to contribute to the online discussions that we have after each show via the comments section. It’s great to hear from people who haven’t seen the performances, and you certainly don’t have to be a professional dancer to participate (in fact, the majority of Performance Club participants are not professionals).

If you’re ever in NYC, hopefully you can join us at a performance. Until then, feel free to contribute to the online discussions in the comments section at the link above.
