I was thrilled to learn that choreographers Kyle Abraham and Alexei Ratmansky are two of the twenty-four recipients of the prestigious 2013 MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award. This is incredibly well deserved. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed viewing Abraham’s company, Abraham.In.Motion, perform his work at Joe’s Pub, Danspace Project, and the Kitchen. Abraham is currently the Resident Commissioned Artist at New York Live Arts.
Ratmansky’s work is always a delightful surprise. Even after multiple viewings, his Concerto DSCH for New York City Ballet is still fascinating, as is Russian Seasons. Ratmansky is currently the artist in residence at American Ballet Theater.
You can read about all of the recipients here, and also in The New York Times article.
